Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to play?
Early Bird rate: Up to March 31, 2020 $150 per team
$180 per team April 1-May 1, 2020
Registration deadline is May 1, 2020

Is there a rain date?
Games are played rain or shine

How many players on each team?
Maximum 6 players (plus a goalie)

Must I register on a team or can I register as an individual?
You must register on a team

Can teams be co-ed or female only?
Yes, all divisions are open to both male and female players

What is the definition of 4 on 4?
3 players and a goalie on the surface at a time.

Additional players are permitted on the team but changes must be made on the fly. (Maximum 6 players plus a goalie per team)

How long are the games?
Games are 21 minutes  with a 2 minute transition time between games

What is the tournament structure? How many games do I play?
The tournament is a 3 game guarantee for Novice through Corporate divisions, after your 3 games you must continue to win in order to advance

How long do I have between each game?
This depends on your individual team schedule. If you continue to advance, wait times to play will be shorter.

How many teams are in each age category?
There are 8 teams in each category. This may change based on registration.

How big are the playing surfaces?
Novice and Atom: 40×80
Pee-Wee-Corporate: 50×100

What are the boards made of?
The boards are wire fencing. The sides are 4 feet high, the ends are 8 feet in height

What size are the nets?
Nets are regulation size hockey nets

What type of balls are used?
Balls are regular street hockey (not the very hard one’s)

What equipment do I need?
Helmets are mandatory for all age categories.
Novice-16+ division must wear face shield
Players 18+ are not required to wear a face shield-however it is recommended.
Hockey stick may be composite, plastic or wood. All sticks must be free of sharp edges or fragmented blades and shafts.
Hockey gloves are recommended
Shin protection of some sort is recommended
Good pair of running shoes
Jock is recommended

What goalie equipment is required? Is equipment provided?
Goalies must wear full equipment at all levels
Equipment is not provided or available on site

Does Top Shelf provide jerseys?
T-shirts are provided to each team-one size fits all applicable to age groups. (Included in registration fee)
Pinnies will also be on-site

What time does the tournament start and end?
Complimentary Breakfast: From 8:00-9:30 am (For everyone)
Game Start time is 9:00 am
Estimated end time is 4:30-5:00 pm unless your team is eliminated early

What do teams win?
Each player on the winning team receives a Top Shelf hockey jersey
Each player on the winning teams will be invited to an on-ice skills and drills session coordinated by Brad Smyth: NHL Alumni Hockey Camps & Clinics

When and Where is registration?
Registration is only available on-line only
On-site registration table opens at 7:45 am (players bring there waiver forms and will pick up a grab bag with participant t-shirt inside.

Where can I get a waiver form?
Forms are available on the website or at the registration table

Who do I give my waiver form to?
All players must have a signed waiver form completed and signed by a parent-guardian over the age of 18. A player will not be permitted to participate in a game without a signed form. Waiver forms are dropped off at the registration table on event day.

Are there things to do between games?
A skills area will be set up from 9:30 am-12:00 pm (Hardest shot-target shooting-stick handling and passing accuracy) Winners from each division will be announced at 12:45 pm
Some sponsors will have booths set up on site

Will I be able to buy food and drinks at the event?
There will be a free pancake breakfast from 8:00-9:30 am
Salvation Army Food Truck will be on-site from 11:30 -1:00 pm serving lunch. All players receive a a free lunch and Beverage. All others can by food tickets at the registration table.
Lone Star Barrhaven will be serving chips and Salsa (complimentary)
Water is the only beverage provided on site: Complimentary

Are there opportunities for sponsorship or donations?
